How to Make Your iPhone Battery Last Longer!

Saturday, 6 December 2014

It's no secret that iPhone batterys have horrendous battery life - I see countless tweets per day complaining about them and hear plenty of sighs daily due to low battery life despite charging it that morning.

Apple aren't concerned about how long your battery life lasts, they just want you to use their full capacity of features on the phone, which you may not even realise actually drain your battery!
So, after fiddling about with my phone settings and discovering what makes your phone live that little bit longer on a charged battery, I thought I'd share with all of you iPhone users that hate seeing the small red bar on the top right of your screen, tips and tricks that keep that battery green for longer.

1. Turn off your Location Settings
Location settings are great when it comes to tagging your location on Instagram photos, finding your way around on Google maps, and 'checking-in' on Facebook. However, if you're not doing any of these things, turn it off! It constantly runs in the background and sucks the life out of your phone
Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Turn off
2. Turn off Bluetooth
I'm not sure of any reasons why Bluetooth is used on iPhones anymore, but to turn it off, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and press the top middle icon so it goes grey/black!

3. Turn Background App Refresh off
Your apps constantly refresh in the background, whether they are open or not. Apps such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook only really need to refresh their timelines when you decide to check the app - there's no point in refreshing to new statuses/tweets if you aren't looking at them!
Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Turn off

4. Reduce Motion
You may have noticed that when you tap and icon it 'whooosh'es (there'll be a more technical word in the dictionary, but naht on elelibee!) to maximize to the screen - same when minimizing. You may have also noticed that when you tilt your phone, the background moves with it. Both of these things use an unnecessary amount of battery!
Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion > Turn On

5. Turn Auto-Brightness on
Bright phone = low battery. Also, when your phone is on very minimal battery, swipe up on your phone and turn that brightness down!
Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness > Turn Auto-Brightness On

6. Turn off Cellular Data and/or Wifi when you're out
When you're out and about, do you really need 3G? I spent a whole day in London with my 3G and Wi-Fi turned off, and at the end of the day had 89% battery left - shocking, huh? If your Wi-Fi is on when you are out, it is constantly looking for a hotspot. Turn it off! (Unless you're in a wifi hotspot and need it, of course)
Settings > Cellular > Turn off Cellular Data > Turn off Enable 3G

7. Put your phone down!
It's no secret that some of us sit on our phones way more than necessary, if you sit texting all day or are addicted to a game - of course your battery life is going to dramatically reduce! Candy crush can wait, having battery life while your out and about - especially by yourself, is hugely important, even if you just nip to town. Being safe is more important than finishing that photo shoot for Simon.
